Please note the Smart Vision Test is not covered by your vision plan as it is considered "telemedicine" - the eye doctor is off-site when reviewing the information collected by the device. Not everyone will qualify for this type of test. Materials are typically covered by your insurance with or without a co-pay depending on your plan's benefits. This is not an eye health exam, which is available if you schedule a 'comprehensive eye exam' instead.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. If I wear contact lenses can I take a Smart Vision Exam?

A. Yes. You can get a renewal / updated contact lens prescription and/or a prescription for glasses.

Q. Is this FDA approved?

A. The Smart Vision Exam utilizes an FDA Registered Class I Medical Device. The device is safe for use on all patients and effective in generating accurate prescriptions.

Q. Who qualifies as a candidate for Smart Vision Exams?

A. Anyone 16 – 65 years old with no prior health problems and have not been diagnosed with specific eye problems such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. 16 and 17-year-old patients will require parental approval and they will have to confirm the patient had a full eye health exam in the past 2 years.

Q: Will I be seeing an eye doctor during the exam?

A: No. Our doctors will be reviewing results off-site like telemedicine.

Q: Will you be dilating my eyes today?

A: No. Smart Vision Exams do not include dilation which is part of a full eye health exam. The American Optometric Association recommends a comprehensive eye exam every two years.

Q: When and how will I obtain my eyeglass prescription?

A: Your eyeglass prescription will be emailed to you within 24 hours via a secure online portal. You will be prompted to create a secure login at 'Smart Vision Labs’ website to view and download the prescription, or you can pick it up at our store.

Q: When and how will I obtain my contact lenses prescription?

A: Your contact lenses prescription will be emailed to you within 24 hours. You’ll be prompted to create a secure login on Smart Vision Labs’ website to view and download the prescription.

Q: How long does it take to conduct Smart Vision Exams?

A: Most Smart Visions Exams take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Q: What do Smart Vision Exams measure?

A: You will receive a visual acuity test (an interactive version of the old eye chart) and then the exam will measure your refractive error (how light passes through your eyes). This refraction error is then translated into a prescription for glasses or contact lenses.  We check for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

Q: Do Smart Vision Exams check eye health?

A: Smart Vision Exams currently check your vision for the purpose of issuing a prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. We, along with American Optometric Association, recommend full eye health exams every 2 years. However, if you have eye health related issues we recommend finding a local doctor for a consultation.

Q: Who issues my prescription from my Smart Vision Exams?

A: All vision exams are reviewed by state licensed ophthalmologists/optometrists who review all the data collected during the test and issue a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. In some cases a doctor will request additional information from a patient or recommend the patient see a doctor.

Q: How quickly will I get my prescription?

A: Our doctors are reviewing prescriptions throughout the day. Depending on demand it can take up to 24 hours (usually much faster) to receive your prescription via email. If you don’t get your prescription within this time frame please contact us.

Q: Am I guaranteed a prescription if I take the exam?

A: Prescriptions are given at the discretion of the state licensed ophthalmologists/optometrists who reviews your test results. In rare occasions you may not be eligible to receive a prescription for a number of reasons like medical history, anomalies in the pictures taken and information provided during the test which might be indicators of other eye health issues. In those cases the doctors will either request additional information or recommend you see a doctor for a full eye health exam.

Q: What happens if I don’t like the eyeglass prescription produced?

A: If you are not satisfied with the final prescription for whatever reason, we will provide a redo of your prescription at no extra cost.

Q: Can I use my FSA account to pay for a vision test?

A: Yes. Vision testing is an eligible FSA expense.

Q. What is Telemedicine?

A. Telemedicine allows health care professionals to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients at a distance using telecommunications technology, like our Smart Vision device. The approach has been through a striking evolution in the last decade and it is becoming an increasingly important part of the American healthcare infrastructure.

Q. Is the Smart Vision Test covered by my insurance?

A. Telemedicine is not covered by your vision plan as it's not a comprehensive eye exam. It does measure your prescription for glasses and/or contact lenses.

The prices are very reasonable $39 for a glasses prescription and $49 for a contact lens prescription.
